This program accepts basic law enforcement training (BLET) coursework from North Carolina Community Colleges. BLET courses count toward up to 20 elective credit hours in the BS in Organizational Leadership and Learning program.

Community College Transfer Pathway

Do you have an associate degree in business administration from a North Carolina community college? App State Online’s BS in Organizational Leadership and Learning program is certified to offer a transfer pathway for students who have earned an Associate of Applied Science (AAS) degree in Business Administration from a North Carolina Community College (NCCC) Partner and who want to earn their bachelor’s degree.

This pathway offers a flexible, accessible avenue for students who want to build on the skills they earned in their AAS degree and apply a minimum of 61 credit hours toward an affordable, high-quality bachelor’s degree program.

Students who are admitted to the online BS in Organizational Leadership and Learning program through the community college transfer pathway program must have received all grades of “C-” or better in order to earn the aforementioned 61 transfer credit hours.

Curriculum & Courses

The BS in Organizational Leadership and Learning Flight Path Program requires 120 total credits to graduate, which includes 41 hours of general education courses, 3 hours of a Foundations of American Democracy course, 15 hours of business foundation courses, 39 hours of organizational leadership and learning courses, 21 hours of Career Content Concentration, and 4 elective hours.

Keep in mind that you’re required to transfer in with at least 24 credit hours. Any additional, applicable transfer credits you have can significantly reduce your required hours and time to graduate. The required courses include the following:

Business Foundation Requirements (15 Hours)

ACC 2100 – Principles of Accounting I (3)

The initial course in the theory and practice of financial accounting. Topics emphasized include the preparation, reporting and analysis of financial data.

LAW 2150 – Legal Environment of Business (3)

An introduction to the legal environment in which business must operate.

MKT 3050 – Principles of Marketing (3)

An introductory study of the marketing process in advanced market economies. Consideration of psychological theories and determinants of buyer behavior.

MGT 3620 – Human Resource Management (3)

A study of basic personnel policies, practices, objectives, functions and the organization of personnel programs.

MGT 3630 – Introduction to Organizational Behavior (3)

A study of individual and small group behavior in a work setting with focus on how this knowledge is reflected in current management theories.

Organizational Leadership and Learning Core Requirements (39 Hours)

OLL 2050 – Introduction to Organizational Leadership and Learning (3)

This course provides an overview of organizational leadership and learning.

CTE 3250 – Career Management (3)

This course provides an overview of career management including the career planning and development process.

CTE 3340 – Business Communications (3)

Students gain experience in written and spoken business communications. Activities include writing e-mail, memoranda, letters, proposals and reports.

OLL 3380 – Information, Data and Assessment for Leaders & Learners (3)

This course provides instruction in computers as essential tools in organizational leadership and learning.

OLL 3850 – Professional Development and Adult Learners (3)

This course provides an overview of professional development and the adult learner.

OLL 4410 – Workforce Ventures and Innovation (3)

Study of the development, responsibilities and problems associated with entrepreneurial and small business operations in organizational leadership and learning environments.

OLL 4420 – Project & Resource Planning for Leadership and Learning (3)

This course explores project and resources planning for organizational leadership and learning.

OLL 4525 – Organizational Leadership, Learning and Planning (3)

This course explores the many aspects of leadership as it relates to the workforce. Personal qualities, communication strategies and perspectives in leadership will be examined.

OLL 4550 – Digital Learning Systems (3)

This course provides instruction in the administration of digital networks with a major emphasis on digital learning systems and software.

OLL 4640 – Computer Design Applications for Leaders & Learners (3)

This course involves extensive hands-on activities that include spreadsheets, databases, presentation, design and publication software. Internet activities, including the design of promotional/learning materials and web page design.

OLL 4750 – Work-based Experiences & Human Dynamics (3)

This course provides an overview of various types of work-based learning experiences and human dynamics related to organizational leadership and learning.

OLL 4900 – Internship in Organizational Leadership & Learning (3-12)*
This course is designed to provide a capstone experience in which students are able to apply knowledge and skills gained through course work, and to demonstrate their capacity to function successfully in a professional setting. 

*6 hours required for major, can be repeated for credit

Dr. Sutton earned his M.A.Ed. in curriculum and instruction and a graduate certificate in integrative STEM education from Virginia Tech and his B.S. and Ed.D. in technology education from North Carolina State University. Dr. Sutton teaches various courses to prepare teachers and professionals in the career and technical education program. His research surrounds aviation workforce shortages and developing engaging integrative science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) education activities for teachers.
